Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Sidekick Learn (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and related services at http://localhost:3000 (the “Service”).

The Service is a homeschool curriculum companion for parents, guardians, and educators. Children do not create their own accounts. Adults manage family accounts and student profiles.

If you have questions, contact us at [email protected].

1. Who this policy applies to

  • Adult account holders — parents, guardians, or co-adults who sign up with email or Google sign-in.
  • Student profiles — information you enter about a child (for example, first name and grade) so we can show the right lessons and save progress.

We do not offer child-directed registration or social features for children.

Information collected automatically

Data Purpose
Session cookies Keep you signed in securely
Server and security logs Operate the Service, prevent abuse, and debug errors
CAPTCHA tokens (Cloudflare Turnstile) Reduce automated sign-up and login abuse

We do not use advertising trackers or sell personal information.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Create and secure adult accounts and family memberships
  • Show curriculum content and track lesson progress per student
  • Send transactional email (verification, password reset, co-adult invites)
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Comply with law and protect users against fraud or abuse

We do not use student information for targeted advertising.

4. Children’s privacy (including COPPA)

The Service is intended for use by adults acting on behalf of children they educate at home or in a tutoring relationship.

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through a child login or child email account.
  • A parent or guardian provides student information and controls the account.
  • By creating a student profile, you represent that you are the child’s parent, guardian, or have authority to provide that information for educational use.

If you believe we have collected a child’s information without appropriate parental involvement, contact [email protected] and we will take steps to delete it.

5. How we share information

We share information only as needed to run the Service:

Recipient Why
Hosting provider (e.g. Render) Run the application and database
Email provider (e.g. Resend, when configured) Send account and invite emails
Google Optional OAuth sign-in (Google’s policy applies to that sign-in)
Cloudflare Turnstile CAPTCHA on sign-up and login

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.

Co-adults in your family: Adults you invite to your family can see the same student profiles and progress you share within that family.

6. Data retention and security

We retain account and progress data while your account is active and as needed to operate the Service. You may request deletion of your account or a student profile by emailing [email protected].

We use industry-standard measures (HTTPS, hashed passwords and PINs, access controls scoped to families). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you.

  • Account data: Update your name via account settings where available, or contact us.
  • Student data: Edit or remove student profiles from family settings, or contact us.
  • Sign-in: Use email/password or disconnect Google OAuth through your Google account settings.
  • Deletion requests: Email [email protected] from the address on your account.

We will verify requests before deleting data that affects other family members (for example, shared progress).

8. International users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, your information may be processed in the U.S. and other locations where our providers operate.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
