Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Sidekick Learn at http://localhost:3000 (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Questions: [email protected]
1. The Service
Sidekick Learn helps families browse homeschool curriculum content, track lesson progress, print worksheets, and coordinate between co-adults (for example, two parents) in one family account.
- Curriculum lessons are provided for educational use; we do not guarantee accreditation, grade placement, or compliance with your state’s homeschool laws.
- Phase 1 may include features still in development (additional grades, billing, family merge tools). We may add, change, or remove features over time.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) and able to enter a binding contract.
- You must be a parent, legal guardian, or educator with authority to use the Service for the children you add to your family.
- One account per adult. Do not share your password. Co-adults should accept a family invite to get their own login with equal access.
- You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure.
Children do not receive their own login. Any optional student PIN is only for marking progress under your supervision, not a separate child account.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of others’ rights
- Attempt to access another family’s data or bypass security controls
- Scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service except as allowed by law
- Upload malware, spam automated sign-ups, or harass other users
- Misrepresent your identity or your relationship to a child you add
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or pose a security risk.
4. Content and intellectual property
Our content
Curriculum materials, site design, and software are owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, personal, non-commercial license to access and use content through the Service for home education.
You may not redistribute curriculum files at scale, remove attribution, or use our trademarks without permission.
Your content
Information you enter (names, progress, feedback) remains yours. You grant us a license to store and display it only as needed to operate the Service (for example, showing progress to co-adults in your family).
Third-party and open materials
Some lessons may link to or embed third-party resources (for example, public-domain images). Those materials are subject to their own terms.
5. Co-adults, invites, and families
- Adults you invite receive equal access to students and progress in that family unless we introduce different roles in a future version.
- You are responsible for inviting only people you trust with access to your children’s educational data.
- Tools to merge separate family accounts may be offered later; until then, use invites for co-adults who have not created a separate household with students.
6. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, including minimal student information (such as first name and grade) and how we handle children’s privacy. By using the Service, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.
7. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that curriculum content meets every educational standard or legal requirement in your jurisdiction. You are responsible for your homeschool compliance and instructional choices.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (IF ANY) OR (B) USD $100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the maximum permitted by law.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service, violation of these Terms, or violation of any law or third-party right, except to the extent caused by our intentional misconduct.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Provisions that by nature should survive (disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, governing law) will survive.
11. Changes to the Service and Terms
We may modify the Service or these Terms. We will post updated Terms on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be noted in the Service or by email where appropriate.
Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence apply.
Before filing a claim, please contact [email protected] so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
13. General
- Entire agreement: These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
- Severability: If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver: Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
- Assignment: You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger or sale of the Service.
